Puppy Checklist
You are about to welcome a Rottweiler puppy — congratulations. Use this checklist to prepare your home, your family and your first vet visits with confidence.
Supplies for day one
- Sturdy crate (size L/XL) with soft bedding
- Two stainless steel bowls for food and water
- Puppy food recommended by the breeder (transition slowly)
- Adjustable collar + 2 m leash and a well-fitted harness
- ID tag with your phone number
- Chew toys (Kong, rope, rubber) — no small parts
- Enzyme cleaner for accidents
- Grooming brush and puppy-safe shampoo
Puppy-proof your home
- Secure loose cables and remove toxic plants
- Store cleaning products and medication out of reach
- Block stairs with a baby gate until 4–5 months (joints!)
- Create a quiet resting spot away from foot traffic
- Fence off the garden and check for gaps
Health & vet
- Book the first vet visit within 3 days of arrival
- Plan vaccinations (6, 9, 12 weeks) and deworming
- Register microchip in your name
- Take out puppy insurance early
- Ask the vet about a large-breed growth plan
The first 8 weeks at home
- Keep the routine calm and predictable
- Start house training from day one — out every 1–2 hours
- Introduce short handling sessions (paws, ears, mouth)
- Begin socialisation: sounds, surfaces, calm people
- Sign up for a positive puppy class from week 10–12
