Your Rottweiler puppy's name should mean one thing: pay attention to me — something good may happen.
The Name Game
Start somewhere quiet.
- Have several small treats ready.
- Say your puppy's name once.
- Mark the moment your puppy looks at you with "yes" or a clicker.
- Reward immediately.
- Repeat a handful of times, then stop while your puppy is still keen.
Add Distance and Distractions Gradually
- Practise in different rooms
- Increase the distance between you
- Say the name while your puppy is mildly occupied
- Move outdoors to a quiet, secure area
- Only then add stronger distractions
Protect the Value of the Name
Avoid using your puppy's name repeatedly when:
- Scolding
- Nagging
- Calling when you know they will ignore you
- Repeating commands
- Ending every enjoyable activity
