Keep Your Rottweiler Cool in Summer Heat

Summer brings lovely, long days — but also heat that can seriously bother your Rottweiler. With their dark coat and sturdy build, they need extra attention when the temperature rises.

Cooling starts at home. Make sure there are shady spots in the garden and keep curtains closed indoors. A cooling mat or an elevated bed works wonders. Some dogs also love lying on tiles.

Water is essential, and not just for drinking. A small paddling pool or a sprinkler provides relief. Not every Rottweiler is a water lover, but most appreciate a fresh splash on belly and paws.

Watch out for asphalt and sand. These surfaces can get blisteringly hot and burn paw pads. Test the ground with your hand: if you can't hold it for five seconds, it's too hot for your dog.

Recognise overheating early: panting, drooling, sluggish movement or refusing to walk further. Move to shade immediately, offer water and moisten ears, belly and paws with lukewarm water — never cold water, as that constricts blood vessels.
