Snacks
Snacks are a training tool and a bonding moment — as long as they stay under 10% of daily calories.

Great everyday options
Small pieces of cooked chicken, freeze-dried liver, pieces of carrot, cucumber, apple (no core), blueberries, plain yoghurt in a lick mat and a spoon of natural peanut butter (xylitol-free).
Long-lasting chews
Bully sticks, buffalo horn cores, Yak chews and a raw meaty bone (under supervision) satisfy the need to chew. Always match chew hardness to your dog — a broken tooth is expensive.
Never feed
Chocolate, grapes and raisins, onions and garlic, macadamia nuts, xylitol (sugar-free gum, some peanut butter), cooked bones, alcohol and raw yeast dough. These are toxic.
Snacks during training
Use tiny pieces — pea-sized is enough. If you use a lot of treats in a session, reduce that meal's kibble accordingly to keep weight in check.
