Puppy Food
Rottweilers grow for 18–24 months. Feeding the right puppy food during this window is one of the biggest investments in lifelong joint health.
Look for 'large-breed puppy'
The label should explicitly say large-breed puppy or 'suitable for growth of large-breed dogs (adult weight > 25 kg)'. This guarantees controlled calcium and calorie density.
What to check on the bag
Protein around 24–28%, fat 12–16%, calcium 1.0–1.4%, calcium-to-phosphorus around 1.2:1. A named animal protein (chicken, beef, lamb) as the first ingredient is a good sign.
Kibble, wet or raw
All three can work if formulated for large-breed growth. Consistency matters more than the format — sudden switches upset the stomach. Change food gradually over 7–10 days.
Common mistakes
Free-feeding, extra calcium supplements, adult food too early, and 'grain-free' foods with legume-heavy recipes have all been linked to health issues in growing large breeds.
