Walking
Walks should be a highlight of your day together — not a workout for your shoulders.

How long should a walk be?
Puppy rule of thumb: 5 minutes of on-leash walking per month of age, twice a day. Adult Rottweilers thrive on 1–2 hours of daily activity split across walks, sniffing time and play.
Gear that helps
A well-fitted Y-shaped harness protects the neck and gives you steering. A 2–3 metre leash is more comfortable than a short lead. Skip flexi-leashes on busy streets.
Let them sniff
Sniffing is mental exercise — 15 minutes of sniffing tires a Rottweiler more than 30 minutes of trotting. Build 'sniff time' into every walk.
Weather awareness
Rottweilers overheat easily. Walk early and late in summer, carry water and avoid hot asphalt (if you can't hold your hand on it for 5 seconds, it burns paws). In cold: watch for salt on paws.
