Basic Commands
A handful of solid commands turns daily life with a Rottweiler from a wrestling match into a partnership.

Sit
Hold a treat just above the nose and slowly move it back over the head. As the head tips up, the bottom drops. Mark with a 'yes' and reward. Add the word 'sit' only when the movement is reliable.
Down
From sit, lower a treat straight down to the floor between the paws, then slide it forward. When the elbows touch the floor, mark and reward. Add the cue later.
Stay
Build duration first (1 second → 30 seconds), then distance, then distraction — one variable at a time. Always release with a clear cue like 'okay'.
Come (recall)
The single most important command. Only ever pair 'come' with something wonderful — treats, play, praise. Never call your dog to punish or end fun.
Heel / loose leash
Reward your Rottweiler for being at your side. Stop or turn around every time the leash goes tight. Consistency wins here — every walk is a training walk.
