The critical window: 3–16 weeks
In this period, positive experiences form lifelong associations. Expose your puppy to as many friendly people, calm dogs, surfaces, sounds and environments as possible — always at their pace.
Quality, not quantity
One calm meeting with a balanced adult dog is worth ten chaotic dog-park visits. Avoid overwhelming groups, aggressive dogs and stressful situations.
Meet the world, one thing at a time
Cars, bicycles, umbrellas, wheelchairs, children, beards, hats, vacuum cleaners, thunder recordings — introduce them at a distance first, reward relaxed behaviour, then reduce distance gradually.
Enrol in a puppy class
A good, force-free puppy class gives structured socialisation with same-age puppies and coaching for you. Ask if they use positive reinforcement and cap class size.
